In general, most customers select these three things:

A garden fence with overlap. This type of design includes extra fencing overlapped and staked to the ground to the outside of the area. This acts as a dig deterrent and covers small peaks and valleys in your landscape animals can use to enter your garden. Some customers bury this overlap to exclude tunneling animals like moles.
An all metal garden fence or garden fence with a chew barrier base. Most animals, with the exception of deer, will try and chew your fence to gain access (like rabbits and groundhogs!). With an all metal fence, an all metal fence with a chew barrier base or a poly fence with an all metal base (most popular) you have the best chance of keeping your garden pest free.
A 6 foot tall or higher garden fence. The minimum suggested height for small garden areas up to 100 linear feet is 6 feet. Other areas: 7 to 7 ½ feet for areas up to 500 linear feet and 8 feet or taller for areas over 500 linear feet. This is a general guide and not a rule please use your own judgement. For example, if you are wrapping bushes like arborvitae to prevent deer damage, 6 feet tall will work for any footage length. In general the less space deer have to be able to jump inside an area, the shorter the fence can be – they are less likely to try and jump inside a 25x25 area than a 100 x 100 garden plot.

Steel or poly kits that include a minimum of 6" of overlap to pin to the ground. Great for all types of non-chewing animals like deer that can also try and push up under a fence with their noses. Also can be removable or permanent.

One Layer Of Garden Fence No Overlap

These kits don't have extra layers of steel rodent barrier fencing or overlap pinned to the ground. For example, you may have 5 foot high posts and 5 foot fencing to go on the posts. This is the best configuration for portable fences, seasonal garden fences or movable barrier fences. For example, a 4 foot fence to keep geese from pulling apart a lawn area or to set up a fence to keep children from wandering out of the yard.

For example, to keep raccoons out of your vegetable garden.
