Goose Fence Comparison

Goose fencing is a type of fence engineered to keep out geese or block geese. Typical applications include:

  • Preventing goose access (keeping them from going into an area)
  • Blocking an area as a deterrent like a shoreline where geese will frequent
  • Installing a removable goose fence for seasonal protection

A goose fence kit is a selection of fencing, fence posts, accessories and hardware to build a complete fence to keep out geese when starting from nothing. Our goose fences are not electric and cannot fail due to broken wires, dead batteries, etc. They are engineered to keep out many different animals besides geese, depending on the options you choose. They also make great pet fences to keep in dogs and other animals.

There are 1000+ fence kits, combinations and options within each of these types of goose fences. Since 1992 we have been providing this type of fencing to our customers.

The purpose of this page is to help you compare the choices to best select the goose fence you need for your project.

In general, most customers goose problems select:

  • A standalone 4ft goose fence without overlap (most popular). This type of goose exclusion fence is usually poly but is sometimes metal if pairing the fence purpose with another application. It’s typically installed without overlap (4ft finished height fence posts out of the ground with 4ft fence installed on those posts). This goose fence system is removable and can be taken down when needed by sliding the posts up out of their sleeves which are installed in the ground. The sleeves will stay in the ground and the fence can be installed again by inserting the posts again inside the sleeves, with the fencing attached.

Below are our goose fence kits separated by type:

Other Animal and Goose Combination Fence Kits With Rodent Barrier (Two Layers Of Fence) This is the most popular type of fence to keep out most animals including geese. These kits consist of poly fencing (in all different heights and strengths) or steel with some smaller opening size steel fencing (in different heights, strengths and opening sizes). The purpose of these fence kits is to not only exclude large animals like deer and geese (poly fence is great for geese) but also chewing rodent animals like rabbits, groundhogs, etc.

There are a few different options on the market for goose control. If you have a need to create a fence to deter geese from an area, our fence is for you.

Here’s why:

  • Our goose fencing is effective but nearly invisible from a distance. It's engineered to be as invisible as possible, to blend in with your existing landscape. This is especially important near shoreline areas where your view is important.
  • Completely NON-ELECTRIC, no wires to break, no parts to fail over time. A real actual physical barrier to keep geese out or in.
  • Our goose fence is customizable. Choose the right strength, height, chew resistance, opening size and more depending on your application and if there is another use besides deterring geese. This includes fence gates from 3 feet wide to 24 feet wide, thicker corner posts/end posts if applicable, tensioning for your goose fence and more. We offer the largest selection of animal fence products on the market.
  • Need a temporary goose fence or seasonal goose fence? All of our fences with ground sleeves can be installed permanently or made removable if needed. Use included locking set screws to release our fence posts. A good example would be installing a goose fence for part of the year, then removing it when only resident geese are in the area during the winter when they are not an issue.
  • We make our goose fences quick and easy to install. Using ground sleeves for regular posts and gates and large ground sleeves for corner posts and driveway gates no concrete footings are needed. Posts are secured with a locking set screw inside each sleeve. This is important because the entire fence can be removable or permanent including gates and corner posts. Also, large areas can be installed in a fraction of the time it would take for conventional fencing. Most customers install this type of fence themselves without contractors.
  • Since 1992 we have been supplying our customers with this type of goose fencing. It's our product (some proprietary, under patent protection) that we ship ourselves from our warehouses coast to coast. We don't drop ship or purchase from other companies that in turn ship to you.

Goose Fence Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best goose fence?
The best type of goose fence is nearly invisible but strong enough to keep geese out without hurting them or getting them or other animals caught in the fence.
How do I build a goose fence?
Goose fences are made of support posts, rolls of fencing material and hardware. Ground sleeves are first driven into the ground with a sledge hammer, posts then slide in the ground sleeves and secure with locking set screws. Fencing material is either attached to the posts directly with fence ties or attached to tension cable which offers additional support. Goose fences can be buried at the bottom of the fence or overlapped and pinned to the ground with stakes to prevent geese from pushing up under the fence.
What is the easiest goose fence to install?
The easiest goose fence to install uses ground sleeves. Ground sleeves are first driven into the ground with a sledge hammer, posts then slide in the ground sleeves and secured with a locking set screw. The posts can be permanent or removable. Goose fences with tensioning are not removable. It’s easier to remove a goose fence without overlap, than one with overlap, but be advised goose fence without overlap does not prevent digging underneath.
What is a goose fence made out of?
Goose fence is usually made out of black polypropylene fence mesh with a 2x2 or 1x1 opening size. Here’s some information:
  • Poly goose fence: Small 1x1 or larger 2x2 opening size poly fence mesh. Poly is short for polypropylene which is a type of plastic. This type of poly fence is rust proof, very strong (700 to 1100 pounds of breaking strength per square foot) and easy to work with. It’s also fairly easy to take up and take down, making it an ideal fence for geese. Click here to shop our poly goose fence rolls
How tall does a goose fence need to be?
A standalone goose fence needs to be 30-48 inches tall as a goose blocking deterrent with 36 inches being typical. This height can vary depending on the goose population density and aggressive nature of the birds in the area.
What is an electric goose fence?
Electric goose fence is a fence consisting of electrically charged wires with the intent of shocking geese to scare them away. This type of electric fence can be more expensive than conventional goose fence and more difficult to install & maintain. Wild animals like geese are likely to move into strands of electric fence by accident. Electric fence is great for domestic farm animals like goats for example. You can bring a goat up to an electric fence to shock them once and they will never go up to that electric fence again. Wild animals are different; a traditional (not electric) animal fence is recommended for wild animals.
Can geese push up under a fence?
Gooses can without a doubt push up under a fence! This is a primary characteristic of gooses. They can and will push up under a fence. To protect against this, additional fencing is buried in the ground or overlapped and staked to the ground using ground stakes. Click here to shop our goose fence ground stakes
How much does goose fence cost?
Goose fence will range in price from $1 a foot to $5 a foot or more depending on the width and type of goose fence and if you are purchasing rolls of goose fence only or a complete goose fence kit. Rolls of polypropylene goose fencing will cost less than all metal goose fence.
